Project day - Chinese spring festival

On 27.03.2024, our project day on the topic of "Chinese Spring Festival" took place in cooperation with the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau (WHZ). Ms. Herdis Klarmann, Project Coordinator Campus meets School, enriched this day with many ideas and materials that she made available to us. WHZ students also supported the project day.

The IPM pupils worked in mixed-age, cross-class groups. This allowed the older children to guide the younger ones and support them in completing the tasks. The children were able to familiarize themselves with Chinese culture in various workshops. For example, they practiced using Chinese chopsticks by having to grasp and rearrange various objects with the chopsticks. They painted Chinese characters with large calligraphy brushes and learned about their meaning. Chinese characters were also created using scissors, paper and stencils.
Jianzi is a popular Chinese pastime. The children made these small "shuttlecocks" themselves. There was also a knowledge quiz. WHZ students practiced counting Chinese numbers with the children. The pupils also had the opportunity to take part in a short play and slipped into various animal roles. In this way, they learned about the Chinese zodiac signs in a playful way. Chinese spring rolls were served to satisfy the small appetite in between.

A big thank you goes to Ms. Klarmann, the students of the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau, as well as our teachers and educators, who made the day a successful project day.
