Language Camp of Lucky Lions

The time had finally come. From May 12 - 14, 20 Lucky Lions traveled to Schmalzgrube to the Hammerwerk in glorious sunshine. Once there, they checked into their rooms, made their beds and looked around the large grounds. On the first day, the students focused on the Chinese language. In a creative unit, they designed a birthday calendar - bilingual in Chinese and English. The challenge lay not only in the complex Chinese script, but also in the language itself. After the linguistic introduction, they went outside. There, the focus was on skill and team spirit. For example, the Viking chess game, building the Fröbel tower or running together with balloons between the pupils required both precision and cooperation.

On the second day, we took the special train to Jöhstadt. There we learned a lot about the narrow-gauge railroad and everyone was able to see a steam locomotive up close and from the inside. We walked back through the forest. It was exciting to discover all the animals, stones and plants. Another picnic and a few games, then we hiked back to Schmalzgrube. Now the focus was on English and Spanish. In a simulated everyday shopping situation, we practiced dialogues, negotiated prices and listed goods - sometimes in English, sometimes in Spanish. Playful exercises also ensured that learning was always fun.

Afterwards, we took advantage of the glorious weather again and went out into the garden. In the evening, we had a barbecue, lit a campfire, ate some stick cakes and went on a short night hike.

The language camp impressively demonstrated that the best way to learn a language is to experience it - with all your senses, in motion and together with others.
