Conveying Values in Everyday School Life

Teaching values in everyday school life

The school concept of the International Primary School Meerane not only includes intercultural orientation, foreign language skills, media orientation, etc., but also the teaching of values such as tolerance, decency and politeness. Respect and appreciation for older generations should also be experienced in everyday school life.

The regular visits by our primary school children to the nearby Kursana care home are special experiences for young and old alike. The children and senior citizens meet with a great deal of curiosity and openness. They get to know each other in small discussion groups, play games together and the children delight the residents with cheerful songs.

This exchange brings valuable experiences for both sides. The children can gain an insight into the lives of older people, learn consideration and empathy and experience how enriching intergenerational encounters can be. Ms. Möschke, a member of staff at the care home, accompanies the children and gives them an insight into the daily routine. For the senior citizens, the visits are a welcome change and a source of joy. The carefree energy of the children, their curiosity and warmth make many of them smile and bring back fond memories.

Such encounters strengthen mutual understanding, promote social skills and show how much we can learn from each other - regardless of age. Regular exchanges and visits are therefore also planned for the future. We look forward to more wonderful moments.
