On 02.10.2024, class 2b of the IPM visited the church "St. Martin" in Meerane for the project day and listened to the captivating sound of the organ.
Many talents lie dormant in class 2b, as is the case with all children. Sometimes the parents' profession shows what the child might be capable of:
Mr. Ranft-Knopfe, father of a pupil in class 2b, is a cantor at the local church and an enthusiastic musician. Shortly before the fall break, he introduced the children to various instruments during their music lesson. Class teacher Mario Scherzer, himself a musician on many weekends and music teacher for grades 2-4, took this opportunity to arrange a visit to the town church.
The children were immediately captivated by the organ and many of the cantor's other instruments.
During the visit to the town church, everyone was even allowed to "hit the organ keys" for a brief moment. Principal Mr. Eis and music teacher Ms. Barkauskaite were also enthusiastic and had the opportunity to play the organ. It was a special experience for everyone and aroused interest in further collaboration.
"Several pupils in my class already have instrumental lessons: from flute to percussion, guitar to piano," says Mario Scherzer.
IPM offers numerous afternoon activities that the children are very happy to take part in. Even the after-school teacher of the class, Ms. Matzke, is an enthusiastic drummer in a music club and looks after many interested children in an afternoon program.
A great wish of the class teacher is to find contact persons at craft businesses, service providers, self-employed people, but also medium-sized companies in Meerane, who can introduce the children to their professions, perhaps to arouse the children's interest in a later career choice. A WIN-WIN situation for the school and the companies.
